Meet Dr. Doug Flora

For over 20 years, I've worked as a medical oncologist on the front lines of cancer care. It's demanding, complex, and profoundly human work. My commitment to this field is also deeply personal, shaped by my own experiences as a two-time cancer survivor and the loss of my mother to the disease years ago. My family's life has been intertwined with this fight, driving my passion to find better ways forward.

I believe we're at a pivotal moment in oncology. We have incredible new tools, especially in Artificial Intelligence, that could revolutionize how we prevent, detect, and treat cancer. But innovation alone isn't enough. My focus – and what I'll write about here – is how we thoughtfully integrate these advancements while strengthening compassionate care, ensuring equity, and keeping the patient's experience at the absolute center.

Through my work leading cancer programs, co-founding the AI education initiative Tensor Black, editing the AI in Precision Oncology journal, and writing my upcoming book, CTRL+ALT+Cure, I continually explore the intersection of technology, empathy, and more intelligent systems.

This space is dedicated to that exploration. Join me as I share insights, challenge assumptions, and discuss how we can collectively build a more innovative, equitable, and human future for cancer care.

I’m also a cancer survivor, father of 3, avid Buckeye football fan, based in Cincinnati, OH.

In addition to my leadership roles, I serve as the Editor-in-Chief of AI in Precision Oncology, the first peer-reviewed journal dedicated to exploring the integration of AI in cancer care, fostering innovation, and advancing knowledge. As an active Executive Board member of the American Cancer Society and the President-Elect of the Association of Cancer Care Centers (ACCC), I contribute to advocacy, education, and innovation within the cancer community. I serve as the Chair of the Healthcare Arm for the Cincinnati AI Catalyst (CaiC), an initiative dedicated to exploring, developing, and implementing AI-driven innovations that advance healthcare in the Cincinnati region. The team focuses on inclusive, responsible, and human-centered AI applications to improve healthcare accessibility, enhance patient outcomes, and optimize healthcare operations. Our mission is to position Cincinnati as a leader in AI-powered healthcare innovation.
