PC/OBGYNs are struggling to encourage older patients (not vaccinated generations)to adhere to recommended cervical cancer screening guidelines for early detection. I am not sure the general population is aware the cause of 90% of cervical cancer is HPV.

Self-screening for HPV is a step in the right direction (following on the heels of self testing for CRC etc..) ASCCP’s statement, “Nine months after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved self-collected

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing as an alternative method of cervical cancer screening, the first-ever guidelines have been released to incorporate the option into clinical practice.

The guidelines, “Self-collected vaginal specimens for HPV testing: Recommendations from the Enduring Consensus Cervical Cancer Screening and Management Guidelines Committee,” were published in the Journal of Lower Genital Tract Disease on February 21, 2025.”

I am astounded at the number of women I come in contact with in my role in MolDx with cervical cancer that have not had a PAP in 15-20 years and present with late stage disease.

Glad to have hope that cervical cancer may one day be eradicated in this country. Thanks for posting!
